Shape

Johannesburg is the capital of Gauteng. It is the smallest province but the most crowded.

The province is responsible for one third of South Africa’s GDP, with Logistics & communication, financial services & mining being the biggest sectors. It is also the home of the JSE (the largest stock exchange in Africa).

Gauteng generates about 10% of the total GDP of sub-Saharan Africa and about 7% of the African continent’s GDP.

Gauteng contains enormous concentrations of gold, mainly in the southern ridge of gold-bearing known as the Witwatersrand, and is home to the World’s deepest gold mine.
